Qualifying Events and Expenses
There are specific types of events that can occur where Family for Families may provide support, and defined ways the aid can be given. To the right is a list of these “Qualifying Events” and the “Qualifying Expenses” that are eligible to be covered by the Family for Families organization.

Description
- Occurs to an employee or in an employee's immediate family outside of work (i.e. not covered by workers compensation)
- Does not occur in the commission of a crime by the eligible recipient
- Expenses not covered by insurance
Qualifying Expenses
- Past due rent or mortgage payments to prevent eviction from primary residence.
- Past due utilities at primary residence.
- Medically necessary expenses not covered by insurance (i.e. cochlear implant).
- Emergency housing/hotel.
Description
- Personal, extraordinary, and non-recurring event causing financial hardship.
- Examples include: loss of secondary employment, spouse employment; insufficient insurance to cover expenses after car accident
Qualifying Expenses
- Past due rent or mortgage payment to prevent eviction from primary residence.
- Home repairs not covered by insurance.
- Past due utilities at primary residence.
- Repair or replacement of contents from personal residence.
- Medically necessary expenses not covered by insurance (i.e. handicap accessibility).
- Security deposit to move into new residence.
- Food or clothing.
- Emergency housing / hotel
Description
- A Presidential (U.S.) or international equivalent declared disaster
- An event the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury determines is catastrophic or International equivalent
- Fire in primary residence
- Flood in primary residence
- Localized event damage to primary residence (i.e. Tornado, Hurricane, Earthquake, Volcano)
- Disaster caused by terrorist or military actions
- Disaster resulting from an accident involving a common carrier (i.e. bus, airplane, train)
Qualifying Expenses Covered
- Past due rent or mortgage payment to prevent eviction from primary residence.
- Home repairs not covered by insurance.
- Past due utilities at primary residence.
- Repair or replacement of contents from personal residence.
- Medically necessary expenses not covered by insurance (i.e. handicap accessibility).
- Security deposit to move into new residence.
- Food or clothing.
- Emergency housing or hotel
Description
- Death of Employee or in the Employee’s immediate family (legal dependent, spouse, child, parent)
Qualifying Expenses
- Essential funeral expenses
- Travel to funeral
